holidays, WTVS/Channel 56
has scheduled four special
programs throughout the
month of December.
Dec. 10 — 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.
The Jewish Daily Forward —
This is the story of the Yid-
dish newspaper which served
as a "mentor" to hundreds of
thousands of immigrants
since its founding in 1907.
With a current circulation of
less than 20,000, its future as
a weekly publication is uncer-
tain. Forward staff members
are interviewed, as well as
critics and longtime readers.
Dec. 11 — 10:30 p.m. and
3:30 a.m. "Dosvedanya
Means Goodbye" — Tamara
Okun waited eight years to
receive an exit visa from the
USSR. Her freedom marked
the beginning of what was to
become an accelerated
emigration of Jews from the
Soviet Union. This film
documents Tamara's journey
from Russia, through Vienna,
to her final destination and
new home in Washington,
D.C.
Dec. 12 — 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
"Weapons of the Spirit" — In
World War II France, the
village of LeChambon-sur-
Lignon shielded some 5,000
Jews from the Nazis in a col-
laborative effort. Filmmaker
Pierre Sauvage, who was born
in Le Chambon returns to
this French village to docu-
ment the courage of these
people.
Dec. 16— 6:30 p.m. and Dec.
19 — 5:30 p.m. "Chanukah:
Let There Be Lights" — This
program offers an insight to
the popular, but often
misunderstood, holiday.
Jointly hosted by Rabbi Ben
Kamin of Cleveland and actor
Reuben Silver, the special
traces the roots, considers the
traditions past, and looks at
the evolution of Chanukah in
today's world.

Is Musical

The performing arts depart-
ment of Oakland Community
College's Highland Lakes
Campus will present two per-
formances of the children's
musical production Who
Likes Rice? 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Dec. 8 in the Campus Student
Center.
Who Likes Rice? is an
original work adapted for the
stage by OCC faculty member
Jim McMahon from his
recently-published book of the
same title.
Admission is free.
