themselves." The writer also
disagreed with the critics
who called Seeing Double too
balanced. He said the pro-
duction deals more with
what the Palestinians need,
only touching upon in a
minor way how the Israelis
feel.
The play has been per-
formed all over the United
States and in Israel. In its
closing scene, an Israeli and
Palestinian flag are crossed
in a sign of friendship. The
Palestinian flag was not
permitted to be used in
Israel, where the Israeli
government forbids its
display.
Mr. Varga said the ex-
treme right (pro-Israeli) and
the extreme left (pro-
Palestinian) both say the
show isn't tough enough on
the other side. He also said
the play has been in cons-
tant re-write, the most re-
cent addition adding lines
about the Iraqi takeover of
Kuwait.
The show will end produc-
tion for this year after an
engagement in Rochester,
N.Y. Mr. Varga said the play
will probably continue next
year, with inquiries coming
from all over the world. He
added, however, that he is
reluctant to send it to places
such as the Soviet Union or
Eastern Europe because of
the current high level of an-
ti-Semitism.
"If you offer any sort of
situation equally critical of
Jews and Palestinians, the
anti-Semites of Europe will
see it as a good reason to
bash the Jews."
Ms. Shihadeh said the goal
of the play is really to reach
American Jews and Ameri-
can Palestinians and provide
them with stimulation to
talk. She said Jews espe-
cially are well versed on a
diverse range of political
issues, but when it comes to
Israel many American Jews
hide from the controversy.
Mr. Varga said the show
allows audiences to see what
is ugly in the Middle East
and to analyze it.
"I want people to see from
the show that for us to con-
tinue the preservation of our
culture, somehow we've got
to get rid of the strongest
burden of all of our prob-
lems," he said. "Historically
there are a lot of
mechanisms for unloading
balls and chains. We need as
Jews and Israelis to take a
look at that situation with
the West Bank. I think that
Seeing Double shows us that
life is not going to be better
for Israel unless it's better
for everyone."

The Art of Dry Cleaning:
Dry cleaning is the use of non-water based
(hence dry) liquids to remove soil and stains
from fabrics. All dry cleaners have access to
the same liquids but not all are as skillful in
their use. Like a master artists' skill with his
paints, we at MY Cleaners are more skilled and
achieve masterful results in dry cleaning.
One of the many reasons why knowledgeable
customers say "MY Cleaners is my cleaners:'
