sionals, some of whom felt that the recommendations themselves were not par- ticularly interesting or new. "I don't think it required two years and this much money to get to this point," said one education specialist familiar with the commis- sion. It was Morton Mandel's connections as a philan- thropist, some suggested, that got the commission off the ground at all, and which may make the council a wor- thwhile endeavor. As a philanthropist, Mandel was able to bring together the heads of Jewish organizations with di- vergent ideologies, and the leaders of important North American foundations with an interest in Jewish edu- cation. Mr. Mandel and the coun- cil will serve as the mat- chmaker between those foundations and institu- tions. The annual $5 00,0 00 budget comes from several foundations. mmml SINGLE LIFE Immom Communications Is Singles Topic A workshop on com- municating led by Nick Berar, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 by the Jewish Community Center Singles at the Maple-Drake building.
