Temple, Midrasha
To Offer Classes

Adat Shalom Craft
Workshop

Temple Emanu-El and the
Midrasha, College of Jewish
Studies, are offering a series
of courses beginning Nov. 26
and ending Dec. 17.
Dr. Ivan Starr, associate
professor in the Department
of Near Eastern Studies at
Wayne State University, will
teach a course on Jews and
Islam. Dr. Starr will examine
Jewish history within Islamic
lands, the influence of
Judaism on Islam, the Golden
Age in Moslem Spain, and
Jewish-Arab relations at the
present time. The course will
meet at 7 p.m.
Rabbi David Feder of Tem-
ple Emanu-El will teach a
course on contemporary
Jewish thought. This course
is an introduction to thinkers
who have shaped Jewish
thought in the 20th Century
— Franz Rosenzweig, Martin
Buber, Abraham Joshua
Heschel and Mordechai
Kaplan. This course will meet
at 8 p.m.
Both courses meet at Tem-
ple Emanu-El. There is a

Adat Shalom Synagogue
Nursery School will hold a
Mishpachah Craft Workshop,
a "make and take"
Chanukah event, 10 a.m. Dec.
2 at the synagogue.
Preschool youngsters and
their parents will make edi-
ble menorot, Maccabee pup-
pets, and holiday gifts.
Adat Shalom's Mishpachah
program is co-sponsored by
Jewish Experiences For
Families. For registration by
Nov. 26 call the synagogue,
851-5105. There is a charge
per family.

Shabbat Laws
To Be Discussed

Bais Chabad 'Ibrah Center's
lecture series on contem-
porary Jewish law will con-
tinue Nov. 25 at the home of
Dr. Allen and Andrea Stawis.
Rabbi Elimelech Silberberg
will speak on "Interesting
Tidbits Concerning Sabbath
Observance." The lecture will
be followed by a video of the
recent trip to the Lubavitcher
Rebbe.
Rabbi Silberberg will lec-
'ture 8:15 p.m. Nov. 26 at the
Torah Center on "The Holi-
day Of Yud-Tes Kislev." For

Aleynu To Offer
Operation Why

Aleynu has announced the
"Operation Why" program.
Rabbi Tolwin will teach the
class at noon Tuesdays at the
Aleynu office. The first class
will be Nov. 27 on Jewish
morals. The Dec. 4 class will
be on blessings. Receiving the
Torah will be discussed Dec.
11. All classes are geared to
help make Jewish ex-
periences more meaningful.
The program was developed
by Rabbi Steve Schwartz from
Aish HaTorah Toronto. For

JPM To Offer
Children's Classes

The Jewish Community
Center plans a slew of courses
all beginning Nov. 26 at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris
Building.
All Around Class is one of
10 physical education classes
being offered at the Center. It
will be held at 10 a.m. Sun-
days for children ages 3 and
4. Pillow polo/floor hockey
will be offered at 4:40 p.m.
Thursdays for children ages 9
to 11. Lead up games to Mini
Sports will be offered at 4:15
p.m. Tuesdays for youths ages
4 to 5. Mini Sports will be
held at 4:30 p.m. Mondays for
children ages 6 to 8. Pre-
school physical education will
be held at 9:50 a.m. Mondays.
Beginning girls' gymnastics
will be held at 4:30 p.m.
Tuesdays, while the advance
beginning class will follow.
Beginning children's karate
will start at 5:30 p.m. Mon-
days, while the 5 to 10 class
will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesdays. Boxing for
children ages 5 to 10 will
be held at 5:30 p.m. Tues-
days and Thursdays. Boxing
for teens will be held
at 6:60 p.m. Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Boys' gynmastics
will be held at 5:15 p.m. and
at 6 p.m. Mondays.
The Kenny Goldman
Memorial Basketball League
for children ages 8 to 10 will
be offered at 1:30 p.m. Sun-
days, and for children ages 11
to 13 at 3 p.m. Sundays.
Daddy and Me, one of two
child development classes,
will be offered for children
ages 21 to 36 months at 9:30
a.m. Parent/Toddler Nursery
Gym for children ages 20 to
36 months will also be
offered.
Five cultural arts classes
will be offered including a
pre-school dance at 9 a.m.
Tuesdays and 1:15 p.m.
Tuesdays. Creative Israeli
dance for children ages 5 to 8
will be offered at 4:30 p.m.
Tuesdays.
