Ronald Stein

RONALD STEIN, son of
Bertha and Emory Stein of
Southfield, has been awarded
the "Silver Snoopy Award" by
NASA. The award was given
for "support that greatly
enhances flight safety and
mission success" during the
Space Shuttle system pro-
gram. Mr. Stein contributed
to the design and develop-
ment of the software for the
Block II controller, scheduled
for flight in 1992.

JOSEPH STEVENS of
Grand Rapids has been
honored by Grand Valley
State University with the
establishment of the Joseph
Stevens Freedom Endowment
Award. Mr. Stevens, a sur-
vivor of the Holocaust, shared
his story with GVSU students
to bring history to the
classroom. The endowment
will bring speakers to the
campus to promote
understanding and fulfill-
ment of human freedom.

Israeli General
Speaks To Histadrut

Histadrut, in cooperation
with the Labor Zionist
Alliance, Labor Zionist In-
stitute, Habonim and
Na'amat USA, will present
Brigadier-General Avigdor
Kahalani 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in
the Morris Lieberman Hall,
25900 Greenfield, Oak Park.
General Kahalani is the
newly appointed chairman of
the Amal network of com-
prehensive and industrial
high schools and technical
colleges in Israel. In the 1967
Six-Day War, he commanded
a company of M-48 Patton
tanks.
In 1975, he published his
first book, Heights of Courage:
A Tank Leader's War on the
Golan, a chronicle of his ex-
periences in the Yom Kippur
War. His second book, A War-
rior's Way (1989) describes his
military career, from his
enlistment until his retire-
ment from the Israel Defense
Forces.
The program is free of
charge and open to the public.
