Southfield Sets
Holiday Concert

The Southfield Symphony
Orchestra will hold a holiday
concert 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at the
Southfield Civic Center
Pavilion Concertmaster Velda
Kelly will perform the
"Winter Concerto" from
Vivaldi's Four Seasons. The
orchestra under the direction
of Douglas Bianchi will play
Christmas and Chanukah
selections. Prokofiev's Peter
and the Wolf will be narrated
by Senator Jack Faxon.

Alpha Omega
Slates Musical

The Detroit Chapter of
Alpha Omega Dental Frater-
nity will host a performance
of an original musical produc-
tion, Ship Ahoy! 8 p.m. Dec.
22 and 2 p.m. Dec. 23 at the
Dearborn Hyatt Regency in
conjunction with the
organization's international
convention in Dearborn.
The cast includes 34 Detroit
A.O. members. The script was
written by Dr. Stuart La Kind
and is being produced by Dr.
Jack Lawson.

Film Theatre
Sets Schedule

Ariel, the 1988 film by Fin-
nish director Aki
Kaurismaki, will have a
three-day engagement at the
Detroit Film Theatre (DFT) of
the Detroit Institute of Arts
Nov. 16-18. Ariel is a shaggy-
dog tale of a young man from
Lapland who settles down
with a meter maid in Helsin-
ki. Show times are at 7 and
9:30 p.m. on Friday; 5, 7 and
9:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 1,
3, 5 and 7 p.m. on Sunday.
On Nov. 23, Driving Me
Crazy, a slapstick comedy
about show business by Nick
Broomfield, will be presented.
On Nov. 24, The Emperor's
Naked Army Marches On will
be screened. The film gives a
portrait of Kenzo Okuzaki,
the crazed, self-proclaimed
soldier who waged a one-man
war against Emperor
Hirohito.
Gates of Heaven, the 1978
film by Errol Morris, will be
Nov. 25.
