Film Theatre
Slates Showings

Mr Universe, the 1989 film
by Hungarian Director
Gyorgy Szomjas, has a two-
day engagement, Nov. 30-
Dec. 1, at the Detroit Film
Theatre (DFT) of the Detroit
Institute of Art. This comic
film is about a part-time ac-
tor who leaves Budapest for
New York in search of his idol
Mickey Hargitay — a former
Mr. Universe and the Arnold
Schwarzenegger of his day.
Mr. Hargitay married actress
Jayne Mansfield; they later
became known as the perfect
1960s Hollywood couple.
On the same weekend, Dec.
2, Terezin Diary will be
presented. This documentary
examines Theresienstadt, a
concentration camp near
Prague, Czeckoslovakia,
where tens of thousands died.
During World War II There-
sienstadt was proudly
displayed by Nazi propagan-
dists as a "model camp."
Screenings for Mr. Universe
are 7 and 9:30 p.m. on Friday,
and 5, 7 and 9:30 p.m. on
Saturday. Terezin Diary will
be screened at 1, 3, 5 and 7
p.m. on Sunday.
For ticket information call
DFT, 833-2323.

Hosts Cellist

Conductor Ivan Fischer will
lead the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra in two perfor-
mances of Liszt's Tasso: La-
ment and Triumph (Sym-
phonic Poem No. 2) and
Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in
D major (Titan) 8 p.m. Nov. 23

works, cellist Heinrich Schiff
will join Mr. Fisher and the

Cellist Heinrich Schiff has

peared with all this country's
great symphonies.
A series of informal conver-
sations with guest artists and
speakers will take place
7-7:30 p.m. at Orchestra Hall
prior to the Friday Night
Series concerts. Host for the
Nov. 23 pre-concert conversa-
tion is writer and music critic
Lawrence Johnson. All
Friday-night ticket holders
are invited to attend free of
charge.
