Joint Resolution of the
Congregational Rabbis
of Metropolitan Detroit
At no time have Hillel's questions so challenged individual
conscience and our collective resolve.
We look around us — at an Eastern Europe in economic
turmoil, a Middle East careening toward war — and we
hear a familiar refrain. Once again, some say, it's the Jews
who are to blame.
We have choices. We can blithely go about our business
and hope for the best. Or we can stand together with our
people and say, No more!
In Detroit, we look into our future and wonder if Jewish
children will want to remain Jewish. We wonder if the
growing number of aged will be cared for, or if they will live
out their lives bereft of joy and dignity. We can wait and
see how things turn out. Or we can act now.

Fifty years after the Holocaust, dare we lose even one
opportunity to save a life? To teach a child?
To comfort the aged?
Through the Jewish Welfare Federation, its agencies and its
partners abroad, we can act on that opportunity. With our
donations to the Allied Jewish Campaign, we can strengthen
the network of local and overseas services that sustain our
people and enrich our lives. We can show the world that,
far from being weak and alone, the Jewish People is stronger
than ever.
Therefore, we, the congregational rabbis of Detroit, urge
every man, woman and child in our community to respond to
Hillel's question with a ringing affirmation.
We urge you to support the work of the Federation at home, in
Israel and throughout the world by contributing your best gift
to the 1991 Allied Jewish Campaign.
