David Chicorel and a member of the Volunteer Police Department of Southfield. Mr. Chicorel's parents were founders in 1917 of the Sephardic Jewish Communi- ty of Greater Detroit. David Chicorel was named presi- dent of the organization when his father stepped down. He was instrumental in creating many of the Sephardic Com- munity's ongoing programs, and was active in the group's regular minyan and holiday services. Mr. Chicorel leaves three daughters and sons-in-law, Hinda Askenazy of Hun- tington Woods, Marily and David Megdell of Flint, Judie and Mark Herstand of Mil- waukee, Wis.; brothers and sister-in-law, Albert of Novi, Ralph and Debbie of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Marcel Behar of South- field; seven grandchildren. H.E. Appelman H. Esther Appelman, 87, of Southfield, died Nov. 17. Mrs. Appelman was a social worker in Detroit with the Jewish Welfare Federation. She was a member of Hadassah.
