`Spatial Visions'
Art Association
Sets Events
An exhibition titled
"Spatial Visions: Paintings
by Linda and Donald
Mendelson" opened the
1990-91 series of the Fine Art
Associates UM-D. It may be
viewed free of charge at the
Mardigan Library (Evergreen
Rd. between Ford Rd. and
Michigan Ave.) during
regular library hours.
The Mendelsons create
abstract paintings in media
including watercolor, acrylic
and oil stick as well as in mix-
ed media.
The Mendelsons, who
received their BFA and MFA
degrees from Wayne State
University, have been art in-
structors for over 20 years.
Linda is an adjunct associate
professor at the Center for
Creative Studies College of
Art and Design where she
teaches painting and drawing
in the Fine Arts Department
and is a coordinator of its
Basic Design Program.
Donald is a professor of pain-
ting and drawing at Oakland
Community College. Both
have exhibited in numerous
in- and out-of-state shows.
They are on the board of
directors of the Michigan
Watercolor Society.

The Birmingham Bloom-
field Art Association annual
Holiday Sales Show will be
Nov. 26-Dec. 8. Hours are
Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sat.
10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sun. 12-4 p.m.
There is no admission charge.
Free coffee and cookies will be
provided.
Birdhouses, toys, wearable
art, dolls, glass pieces, jewelry
and pottery will be for sale.

Registration for the winter
term at the Birmingham
Bloomfield Art Association
will start Dec. 3 for members
and Dec. 10 for the general
public. The term will run Jan.
14 to March 23. There will be
95 classes offered for adults
and youth in a variety of
media, including jewelry,
drawing, pastel, art history,
painting, pottery, plus many
others.
"Japonism" the influence of
Japanese culture on Western
art during the 19th and 20th
century, will be explored in
the art history class with
Hope Palmer.
During March there will be
an architecture seminar, coor-
dinated by Jcyce LaBan, "Ex-
periencing Architecture,"
with local architects, Michael
Kirk, Mar. 7; Rainy Hamil-
ton, Mar. 14; Daniel Redstone
Mar. 21; and Harry Van Dine,
Mar. 28. Each seminar will
include a slide lecture and an
on-site visit with each ar-
chitect to a project he is cur-
rently involved in.

Center Galleries
'Focus On Faculty'
The Center Galleries will
open "Focus on Faculty: A
Sabbatical Exhibition" by
four faculty members of the
Center for Creative Studies —
College of Art and Design
(CCS-CAD) 4:30-7 p.m. Nov.
30 at the Galleries. William
Frcka of the Industrial
Design Department, Lothar
Hoffmann of the Graphic
Communication Department
and James Poole and An-
thony Williams of the Fine
Arts Department will present
works.
Mr. Frcka will display large,
mixed-media constructions.
Mr. Hoffmann will exhibit a
12-part work, "The Evolution
of Written Forms," that traces
the development of
calligraphy through the ages.
Mr. Poole will show a series of
mixed-media works on paper
that evoke the forces of
nature. Mr. Williams will ex-
hibit several large-scale oil
paintings on themes of
athletes in motion.
"Focus on Faculty" will be
on view Dec. 1-Jan. 18, 1991.
The Center Galleries will be
closed Dec. 24-Jan. 1.
Exhibits are open to the
public and admission is free.

City Of Hope
Bowl-A-Thon
City of Hope's local Sophie
and Harry Hoffman Chapter
will sponsor its eighth annual
"Bowl-A-Thon" 7 p.m. Nov. 17
at the West Bloomfield Lanes
in order to raise funds for the
City of Hope National'
Medical Center. Chairman for
the event is Bob Harrison of
West Bloomfield, with
Richard Gibbs of Farmington
Hills as co-chairman.
Special incentives in the
form of trips for those that are
able to raise over $1,000 are
offered. Trips range from two
nights in New York including
air fare and a show, a
weekend get-away to Toronto,
and a weekend get-away in
this area.
