Last year, accor- ding to Ms. Silver, over 30,000 people attended the Book Fair, and authors had an average of 600 people per speech. It is this proud tradition and reputation that enable this highly motivated group to boast that they were men- tioned in the Jerusalem Post as setting the "standard" for book fair organization. Often, Ms. Silver's office is called by many groups asking for infor- mation and guidelines for structural techniques. Although each annual book fair is unique with its varie- ty of authors, this year's fair has two very distinctive points of interest for the public. "There are going to be quite a few works that deal with the topic of Israel," Ms. Silver says. "Considering the recent news events and conflicts, many of our pa- trons will find authors such as Dan Raviv and Louis Rapoport particularly cap- tivating. We are also ex- cited that Ida Nudel will be our opening night guest speaker. Her dramatic strug- gle and courage are certainly worth hearing." According to each of the committee members, the goal is simple. "The book has always been important to the Jew. Our task is to get Jewish books into Jewish homes to incorporate a lasting library of our heritage," Ms. Yashin- sky says. Ms. Benny will talk on Sun- day Nights at Seven: The Jack Benny Story, a book about the life of this entertainer. As Jack Benny's only child, Joan had a front row seat for all his roles — humorist, celebrity, father and grandfather. Now a writer and a lecturer on the history of humor in film, she has created a memoir by com- bining her own nostalgic reminiscences with materials from Jack's unfinished autobiography. Joan Benny's talk is free and open to the public, as are all events at the Book Fair, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 11. Dan Raviv, co-author of the best-selling book on Israeli in- telligence, "Every Spy a Prince: The Complete History of Israel's Intelligence Com- munity," also will speak. Every Spy a Prince, which Mr. Raviv co-authored with Yossi Melman, offers a com- plete history of all branches of Special Party Assortments & Trays: Holiday Gift Baskets For Personal and Corporate Gifts Personalized Menus For Every Occasion Pastries, Cookies Confections and Appetizers for Full Service Carry-Out • • • • • Weddings Cocktail Parties Business Luncheons Receptions Holiday Parties Large Or Small Groups Full Service Staff Available \1 EAI)OLtT • B R () 0 K T HE A T R E A cultural program of Oakland University presents Itir NV NOP' Mr—gir NI/ Npr Nlir 'Ng/ NV NU, Wo• Our 25th Season The Classic Mystery The MOUSETRAP by Agatha Christie The longest running play in theatre history!
