ly . . . but always knew what
was going on.
He'd be mighty proud of son
Doug and daughter-in-law
Sydell . . . They have con-
tinued his way of respect in a
big way . . . Jules' wife
Baraga comes in every day
and is there at 7:30 a.m.
before anyone else has
arrived.
Recent champagne recep-
tion honoring the House of
Cartier and celebrating grand
opening of the newly design-
ed Jules R. Schubot Jewellers
in Troy, revealed about 4,000
square feet with separate
watch room, crystal room,
gemstone room, general sales
office, diamond selling office
and four general offices .. .
quite a bit different from the
two small rooms that Jules
had at the Metropolitan
Building.
Of course John Bloom was
there . . . also Eileen
Eisenberg, Carolyn Leven
and so many more . . . Ro-
seann Schlussel still not tell-
ing of the new project she
hasn't said a word about for
the past year.
Elly and Sandy Passer,
chairfolks with Marvin and
Nola Goldman and Herb and
Babs Kaufman, of the Temple
Beth El "A Night In The
'90s" Dec. 1 . . . All but Herb
and Babs were at the Schubot
opening . . . Harry Goldberg,
with Jim August and Ron
Stone the past 10 years, is one
of the ad game "oldies" in our
town . . . an ad man who saw
it as it is and told it as it was
. . . always a winner.
Bud and Marilyn Schlain
. . . He is chairman with Bet-
ty Jane Herman of the '41
Central High Reunion set for
Sept. 21, 1991 at Troy Mar-
riott . . . Call Betty Jane at
357-1854.
Live mannequins, harpist,
valet parking, champagne,
hors d'oeuvres amid a glim-
mering wide-open span that
today makes up Jules R.
Schubot Jewellers . . . but
most of all, the continuance of
an excellent reputation .. .
Doug has done dad Jules
proud.
CHILDREN'S RECORD
album by Ron Coden and
Josh White Jr. should be out
in time for Chanukah . . . Ron
is starting to do a lot of
children's concerts and hav-
ing fun performing for
the kids.
THE TREND of celebrities
charging for autographs is
nothing new . . . Back about

28 years ago, while appearing
at Northland Playhouse,
Celeste Holm penning her
name was worth 25 cents,
with all proceeds going to
UNICEF.
REUNION DEPT. . . .
Almost here, the Oak Park
High class of 1980 10-year
funfest . . . It's Nov. 24 at Troy
Marriott . . . Call Phyllis
Blackman, 569-8546.
RECENT FIRST anniver-
sary by Southfield Marriott
Hotel revealed one thing .. .
that the hotel heads are
mighty avid golf nuts.
Entire ballroom amid the
bars and buffet table was
turned into a miniature golf
setting as guests plied their
luck and talents for low score
prizes in the First Annual
Putt Putt Tournament by
Southfield Marriott . . .
Employees were all dressed in
golf duds as were a lot of the
guests . . . Those who came
dolled up looked a bit out of
place.
BEST BET Of The Week .. .
this Wednesday at Northland
Theatre . . . "Lights, Camera,
Auction" by Variety — The
Children's Charity . . . with
food from a bevy of
restaurants, silent and live
auctions and movie premier,
Kevin Costner's Dances With
Wolves.
THINK WHAT a drive-in
movie would be called if there
was nothing on the screen .. .
It's remarkable, considering
how little our parents knew of
child psychology, how well we
turned out . . . Doctor to
another, "I did that operation
just in time. Another day and
the patient would have
recovered without it." . . . A
teacher was explaining to her
third-graders the importance
of good penmanship . . . She
said, "If you can't write your
name, when you grow up
you'll have to pay for every-
thing in cash."

VIDEO CRITIQUE . . . by
Mike Dembs . . . Glory . . . "So
far this is the best movie I've
seen this year. Matthew
Broderick is the commanding
officer of the Civil War's first
all-black regiment. A funny
thing happened to me as I
was watching Glory. Towards
the end I was literally in
tears, and I didn't even an-
ticipate crying. The courage,
dedication and patriotism of
this platoon and its leaders in
the face of utter decimation
was moving. A better anti-
war film there hasn't been in
a while." Li
