"We decided if we are Jews, then we have to follow Jewish traditions," Mr. Goldman said. "I think that is why we decided to make a bar mitzvah for our son." While Vadim's bar mitz- vah commemorates a milestone for the Goldman family, it also marks the first time Bais Chabad of Oak Park has had such a celebration. To honor Vadim, the synagogue will have kiddush after the service. Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe, an affiliate of Michigan Chabad, estab- lished Bais Chabad of North Oak Park at the Northgate Clubhouse in mid-August. Patterned after Russian Chabad synagogues throughout the United States and Canada, Bais Chabad of North Oak Park allows Soviets to pray in Russian and Hebrew. The congregation, which is led by Rabbi Yosef Mishulovin, attracts approx- imately 75 worshipers every Shabbat service. In addition to services, the congregation also offers Sunday classes. While Americans often at- tend Shabbat services at the synagogue, more than 50 percent are Soviets, said Dr. Hillel Rosenfeld, who often participates. "Having the Russian Jews here has been beneficial to all of us," said Dr. Rosenfeld. duz If you're into fur or leather, you can save up to 66% on both, now at Bricker Tunis Furs/Europa Fur and Leather. t From casual to couture.
