SITE OF THE new Fin-
negan's Restaurant at Nor-
thland, going through the
routine ropes for opening, was
previously York Steak House
. . . Before that it was Ming
Palace in the glory days of
Northland when Kenny
Schwartz directed live shows
at Northland Playhouse and
folks journeyed in throngs to
downtown Detroit's Wonder
Bar, Book Casino, London
Chop House, Russell Steak
House, Clifford Bar, Mayfield
Chop House and so many
other terrific places of
yesteryears . . . Boy, what fun
we used to have in those days!
. . . the DBA (Downtown
Business Authority) of
Southfield is working hard to
bring the - Northland area
back again for the multitude
of shoppers who enjoyed its
shops and so much more.
THE MOUSETRAP,
which opened last night at
Meadow Brook Theater for a
four-week stay,. is the world's
longest running play . . . In
its 38th year in London, The
Mousetrap is considered a
tourist attraction on a par
with Big Ben, Westminster
Abbey and changing of the
guard at Buckingham Palace.
"NACHEZ On November"
is theme party by Michigan
Opera Theatre, celebrating its
20th anniversary season and
upcoming production of Show
Boat . . . Will be Nov. 8,
aboard the Star of Detroit
with Dixieland sounds of
Doug Jacobs and his Red
Garter Band filling the air to
go with the "Jack Daniels"
Bourbon Barbecue Grill.
INTERNATIONAL CEN-
on Monroe in
TER
Greektown has made the
Guinness Book of Records .. .
Certification comes about it
having the world's tallest in-
door waterfall at a height of
114 feet . . . It's in the lobby
on a nine-story steel frame, 40
square feet wide at the base
. . . Entire waterfall is hand-
crafted from imported Gre-
cian marble.
HALLWAY OF PLA-
QUES going downstairs at
Golden Mushroom, 10 Mile
and Southfield, has another
addition for its very im-
pressive array . . . "Best of
Award of Excellence" designa-
tion was given Golden
Mushroom wine list by the
Wine Spectator, trade publica-
tion for the wine industry .. .
About 400 wine lists from
almost every state and 12
foreign countries were
entered in the annual corn-

petition . . . Only 42 received
the distinction . . . Another
165 were given the
magazine's "Award of Ex-
cellence" . . . Golden
Mushroom's wine list has
over 650 selections from an
inventory of about 14,000
bottles.
This was the first time
Golden Mushroom has
entered the Wine Spectator's
annual competition . . . The
Whitney was the only other
local restaurant to receive a
"Best of Award of Excellence"
designation . . . "Award of Ex-
cellence" honors were given
to Grosse Pointe Yacht Club,
Great Oaks Country Club in
Rochester and the Round
Table .Club in Mayflower
Hotel, Plymouth.
DON'T TAKE chances .. .
In restaurants that serve
other than American dishes,
ask for assistance . . . The
management would rather
you did than choose wrongly
and go away disappointed. ❑
