SAYS

University of Michigan foot-
ball coach and athletic direc-
tor Glenn "Bo"
Schembechler, now presi-
dent of the Detroit Tigers.
But Hall of Fame secretary
Jim Grossman promises
added excitement during the
Detroit Jewish community's
premier sports evening in
the form of the second an-
nual Hall of Fame auction.
Proceeds from the auction
help the Hall fund its annual
Hall of Fame Games for the
developmentally disabled,
and among the items
available this year will be
autographed jerseys from
Los Angeles Kings hockey
star Wayne Gretsky and
Detroit Tigers shortstop
Alan Trammell; a pair of
boxing gloves autographed
by former world
heavyweight champion
Muhammad Ali; a dinner for
two hosted by Pistons gen-
eral manager Jack Mc-
Closkey which will include
two tickets to a Pistons
game; a tennis raquet
autographed by Grosse
Pointe's own Aaron Kricks-
tein and a chance to be a
Pistons Ball Boy for a night.
The piece de resistance,
however, said Grossman,
may well be a basketball
autographed by the super-
stars of today's game:
Pistons' Isiah Thomas and
Joe Dumars as well as the
Philadelphia 76ers' Charles
Barkley, the New York
Knicks' Patrick Ewing, the
Los Angeles Lakers' Earvin
"Magic" Johnson, the
Chicago Bulls' Michael Jor-
dan and the Portland
Trailblazers' Clyde "The
Glide" Drexler.
"Imagine having all those
names on the same basket-
ball," Grossman said.
"Last year, we auctioned
off 15 items and raised near-
ly $10,000," Grossman said.
"This year, we aim to have
25 items. The auction was
quite a conversation piece
last year."
There is a charge for the
dinner. For information and
reservations, call Elayne
Wolfson, 788-0921. — R.P.
