Arab delegate - to candidate-Barbara-Dobb

at the Michigan Republican State convention, Sept. 7, 1990

During the course of her campaign, Michigan House
candidate Dobb received many large campaign
contributions from an Arab PAC and members of the Arab
community who are not afraid to voice their opinions. The
Arab community will collect on its political investments,
when votes on the Michigan-Israel Free Trade Agreement
and a bill banning the State tax money for anti-Semc
Farrakhan speeches come before the Michigan legislature.

Let's Voice our opinions...

Mr. Jeffreys came across the
work of a "motivational"
- -speak-er—rrame-d- -Anth-ony-
Robbins.
Already entrepreneurial-
minded — Mr. Jeffreys was
running his own modeling
and talent agency in Ann Ar-
bor — he says the series
"Unlimited Power" had a pro-
found effect on his thinking.
"I began listening to this
program and couldn't believe
what I heard. These were
ideas on goal-setting, raising
self-esteem, 2aising con-
fidence, things that
never taught to me at U of M.
And I thought., 'Why isn't this
stuff taught? Why isn't this
available to the public?' "
At that point, Mr. Jeffreys
began consuming as much
related program material as
he could secure, and he began
to successfully apply the
positive principles to his
modeling business.
He also began to think
seriously about finding a way
to bring the speakers whose
work he enjoyed, and from
which he benefited, to the
Detroit area.
After deciding that "this
was my purpose in life," Mr.
Jeffreys dove right in. He ob-
tained a small bank loan and
starting sketching out a plan
— lining up speakers, booking
hotel space and putting
together a brochure.
The first meeting in
February 1989 drew 400 peo-
ple. Since then, Yes . . . A
Positive Network has grown
to more than 700 subscribing
members.
Ann Arbor sales training
consultant John Tenza, who
regularly attends the presen-
tations, says he's a real
believer in self-education.
He finds the speakers' sub-
ject matter — titles like "Ser-
vice: A Philosophy, Not A
Department," "The Art of
Listening" and "The
Psychology of Success" — and
the tips they offer to be of
great value.
"I need to be on top of
changing trends. Old sales
closers don't work anymore.
You have to teach sales people
to put away some of the
prehistoric selling techni-
ques. Tbday's consumers are
too sophisticated for that."
You've got to be courteous,
customer-service oriented
and give them some space,
Mr. Tenza adds.
Mr. Tenza says the price is
right, too. A 10-seminar
package is $199. Some of the
names for the money include
Mike Wickett and Dennis
Waitley.
The series has also gotten
some corporate attention.
General Motors recently ap-
proved the series for its

employee tuition assistance
program.
The—packaging a-nd- the
speakers must be the right
formula for Mr. Jeffreys. He
says his projected gross earn-
ings for 1990 are in• the
$250,000 range, some of that
income coming from the ren-
tal of educational videotapes
and a more traditional-type
speakers bureau he runs out
of the "Yes" office in Troy.
Diane Lynn, whose
business is a year younger,
says she expe&s her gross to
be in the six-clii.Fit range. ❑
