Congregation Shaarey
Zedek will host an encounter
weekend, Nov. 9-11 with Dr.
Saul Wachs. The weekend,
sponsored by the Berry fami-
ly and under the aegis of the
Cultural Commission coin-
cides with the beginning of
the synagogue's Adult
Studies Program.

Dr. Wachs is the Rosaline B.
Feinstein professor of educa-
tion and chairman of the
Education Faculty at Gratz
College. His experience in-
cludes positions as teacher
and director of educational
and musical programming at
synagogues from Ohio to New
York. He was director of
education at the Phillip W.
Lown Graduate Center for
Contemporary Jewish
Studies at Brandeis Universi-
ty and held posts at Camp
Ramah.
Dr. Wach's will speak on the
"Dignity of Words — Why Did
Judaism Choose the Path of
Liturgical Prayer?" Shabbat
morning. A luncheon and
teach-in sponsored by the
sisterhood will follow in the
Morris Adler Hall. At that
time Dr. Wachs will discuss,
"Prayer as Expression and
Prayer as Empathy — How
