Afro-Asian Group
Honors Two
Friends of the Afro Asian
Institute in Israel will honor
U.S. District Judge Avern
Cohn and Dr. Arthur
Johnson, vice president of
Community Relations at
Wayne State University and
president of the Detroit
chapter of the NAACP, Nov.
13 at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. The speaker will be
Ambassador Abba Eban.
The Afro-Asian Institute
provides training, both in con-
cepts and practice, for leaders
of the black community in
Asia, Africa and South
Africa. It and Histadrut are
committed partners of South
Africa in the struggle against
apartheid.
Abba Eban has published
The New Diplomacy and
Heritage: Civilization and the
Jews. He rose to prominence
as the youngest diplomat in
the international arena when
he led the successful struggle
for international recognition
and membership of Israel by
the United Nations. In Israel,
he has held the posts of
Minister of Education and
Culture, Deputy Prime
Minister and, for eight years,
Minister of Foreign Affairs.
