FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1990

Berris, Bayer and Bagdade will
swell the ranks of Jewish Sports
Hall of Famers to 19 on Nov. 5.

RICHARD PEARL

Staff Writer

T

hey were two basket-
ball-playing buddies
and a pioneering
speedskater. They shared a
love of sport and of teaching
it to youngsters, each in his
own way.
On the night of Nov. 5, the
trio — basketballers Henry
"Honey" Berris and Carl
"Cubby" Bayer and speed-
skater Benjamin B. "Ben"
Bagdade — will wend their
way into the Michigan Jew-
ish Sports Hall of Fame
(Berris and Baer post-
humously). There they will
join such illustrious
predecessors as baseball
immortal Hank Greenberg
and Michigan football All-
American Benny Friedman.
The occasion is the sixth
annual Hall of Fame induc-
tion dinner, the gala at Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek
during which membership in
the Hall will grow to 19.
Other Hall of Famers are
William "Bill" Davidson;
Harry Newman; Mervin
Pregulman; Byron Krieger;
Philip "Cincy" Sachs;
Daniel Dworsky; Herman
Fishman; Myron "Susie"
Schecter; Sam Bishop;
Leonard Brose; Chuck
Burns; Lou Handler; Jacob
Mazer and Mike Yellen.
