And would you believe, it's just about what Matt Prentice is conveying at his new Morels Restaurant on Telegraph Road in Bingham Farms. He may be a fine restaurateur, but Matt can also be considered one of the top publicists in the Michigan restaurant industry . . . especially when it comes to food, dining spots and their chefs. About those framed menus at Morels, people who attend- ed the recent grand opening were slightly amazed that in this day and age with such dog-eat-dog goings on in the business world, let alone the restaurant game, such a sight as competitors' menus would be decoration pieces at a newly-opened dining establishment. Martin Scot Kosins has one night off at Sebastian's, flagship of the Unique Restaurant chain which operates Morels among its eight dining spots . . . Sun- days . . . and here he and his trio were for the grand open- ing . . . Three years ago, Mar- ty came to tickle the ivories at Sebastian's for one night and has been there ever since .. . A reunion for Mita Pa- jewski, professor at Tel Aviv University, here visiting on- cologist son Dr. Bar-Lev Pa- jewski of Henry Ford Hospital, and friend of 43 years, Mira Linder; Norman and Mildred Patler, Matt's in- laws and wife Alicia's parents; Mr. B's Rob Jackier, Leo and Sue Knight, Doug and Barb Wartel — Doug bucks the women's lib thing by being a divorce attorney only for men. Michigan is one of the most unsung states in the country when it comes to cuisine, says Matt . . . It has six master chefs, and two of the five on the United States Culinary Olympics team of 1988 in Frankfort, Germany (Jeff Gabriel and Dan Hugelier), are Michiganders . . . In 1992, Skyline Club's Michael Russell will be captain .. . Michigan gets hardly any recognition for its chefs and food, says Matt. Morels executive chef is Tim Cikra, sous chef is Mar- tin Falk, and Matt's manag- ing partner there is Theresa McWilliams. Jon and Addie Greenberg . . . 10 years ago, when Matt opened Deli Unique on Greenfield in Oak Park, he wanted to renovate the place he bought from Dave Rabin, but didn't have the money .. . Jon Greenberg & Associates did it for him without charge . . . and he is credited as one of the persons who helped get Matt started. Grand opening time was not only festive but also will bring cheer to a lot of needy folks . . . All proceeds from a silent auction for restaurant booths at Morels, over $3,500, went to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, which provides meals, clothes, toys and help for substance abusers . . . Winning bidders also received an American Dining Card for use at all Unique Restaurant Corp. restaurants. Many remember when Matt Prentice started out .. . and so greatly appreciated the helping hands given to him . . . He still does . . . only today as president of the highly respected Unique Restaurant chain. The nine bucks she invested in the dollar slots brought her and husband Mark not the $1,000 Robin thought she had won, but a whopping $10,000.
