Actor and comedian Thom
Sharp will appear at a benefit
for Kadima, 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at
the Comedy Castle.
Kadima provides services
for adults with mental illness.
Mental illness is defined as a
thought disorder that affects
how a person views reality.
Mental illness is often caus-
ed by flawed brain chemistry.
People who have this illness
are intelligent and able to
function within the norms of
society as long as medication
is taken and psychiatric at-
tention is maintained. Men-
tal illness affects how a per-
son copes with daily stresses.
Kadima and JARC are
often confused. JARC services
clients who are developmen-
tally disabled. These people
have an intelligence deficien-
cy since birth and reach a
maximum potential within
the confines of the disability.
Developmentally disabled are
able to live in this communi-
ty in a variety of settings with
support.
Kadima currently has one
group home for six clients,
a semi-independent apart-
ments program for seven
clients and an outreach pro-
