The award is given annually by the MHA to honor trustees who have made exemplary contributions to the improve- ment of hospital services for patients and communities. Mr. Schlussel has served as a member of the Monsignor Clement Hospital Board since 1971. Since 1979, he has also served as a member of the Sinai Hospital board of trustees. He is president of the Jewish Welfare Federa- tion of Greater Detroit, a board member and past presi- dent of the Jewish National Fund of Detroit, and is past president of Congregation Shomrey Emunah in Southfield. JOSEPH PERNICK, senior judge of the Wayne County Probate Court, has been honored with the Mental Health Association in Michigan's 1990 Snyder-Kok Award. The award is presented annually to a public official in Michigan for oustanding leadership in the fight against mental illness. Judge Pernick, is a former chair of the Probate Judges Association Mental Health Committee; served on the committee that drafted the state's Public Mental Health Code; and played a major role in bringing about positive changes in hospital commit- ment procedures for minors. MARK SCHLUSSEL of Southfield, chairman of the board of Monsignor Clement Kern Hospital in Warren, and ABRAHAM NEMETH received the Blind Educator of the Year Award during the Golden Anniversary Conven- tion of the National Federa- tion of the Blind held in Dallas.
