Heller To Serve
A Second Term

Bernyce Heller has been
elected to serve a second year
as president of the Singles
Extension Group of Temple
Israel, an organization for
Detroit-area Jews age 50 and
above who are not married.
Also re-elected were Irving
Barack, vice president; Sabra
Shekter, recording secretary;
Libbie Zalenko, treasurer;
and Mary Adler, correspon-
ding secretary. Marge Paul
was elected to her first term
as vice president-member-
ship.
The group's next event will
be its Autumn Dance Oct. 21.

and 30s gill be held at 9 p.m.
Oct. 26 at Temple Israel. An
informal Oneg Shabbat will
follow.
Dr. Nancy Gad-Harf,
singles coordinator for the
temple, said the service is an
outreach to singles "who are
at a time in their lives in
which they are not connected
with temples or synagogues.
"We want to help them con-
nect and enhance their own
spirituality while, at the
same time, enable them to
meet other singles."

Politics Of Dating
Is Solo's Topic

Solo, Jewish Parents Who
Happen to Be Single, a group
sponsored by Temple Israel,
will host Rabbi Paul Yedwab
speaking on "Matchmaker,
Matchmaker . . . The Politics
Of Dating" on Oct. 21 at
10:30 a.m. at the temple.
A continental breakfast
will be served. A donation is
requested.
A group business meeting
will precede the program at

City Of Hope Sets
Halloween Party

City of Hope's New
Horizons Chapter, for single
adults over 40, will hold its
first fund-raising event, a
Halloween Party, 8 p.m. Oct.
26 at the Potomac Club in
West Bloomfield.
The night will include
games, music, dancing and
treats. A donation is required.

The chapter is planning a
dinner meeting, 6:30 p.m.
Nov. 4 at a site to be announc-
ed. Election of officers will be
held at the dinner.
Mrs. Stein, acting presi-
dent, said the group's purpose
is to raise money for City of
Hope's research into cancer
and other diseases "and to
have fun doing it."
Other functions being
planned include a bowlathon
and a distance run.

Singles Hayride
Needing Helpers

Volunteers are needed by a
new group, Innovative Jewish
Singles, to help with a
hayride planned for Nov. 10.
The group, for Jewish
singles ages 30-50, needs peo-
ple to plan fireside activities,
make telephone calls and ar-
range carpools, according to
Paula Smith, group organizer.
Also needed are musically in-
clined participants "to share
their talents at the bonfire,"
Smith said.
There is a charge for the
event, which has a Nov. 7
registration deadline. To
make reservations or
volunteer, call Mrs. Smith at
542-4990.

Dance Alternative
Offered Singles

A casual evening get-
together for Jewish singles
25-45, offered as an alter-
native to the dance-
party/happy-hour scene, is
scheduled for Oct. 21.

At Maple-Drake

The Senior Adult Depart-
ment at the Maple-Drake
Jewish Community Center
will host the following
programs:
Oct. 22 — 10 a.m.-noon, the
Games Room in Room 239.
10:30 a.m. the Senior Men's
Club in the staff lounge.
11-11:45 a.m. exercise for
visually impaired adults in
the Women's Health Club,
lower level; there is a fee. 1
p.m. Betty White will speak
on "Personal Decision Mak-
ing" in Room 239; refresh-
ments will be served; there is
a charge.
