picking up their children on
time, sometimes parents
have a hard time getting
their children to leave.
When David Marks walk-
ed into Hillel to pick up his
son, Joseph, 4 1/2, the
youngster was more inter-
ested in showing his dad the
popsicle stick he drew on
than leaving latchkey.
Emily Eizelman, 7, said
she likes latchkey better
than being at home with a
babysitter. Sharone Senk, 9,
said latchkey allows her to
spend more time with her
friends from Hillel.
Akiva student Danny
Gutman likes latchkey days
when "I don't have any
homework so I can play."
Parents have their own
reasons for liking latchkey.
Because Akiva's and
Hillel's latchkey programs
are in the school buildings,
parents don't have to worry
about the children getting
there safely. At the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center, the
seven children enrolled,
most of whom attend Hillel
but live in the Oak Park
area, are bussed to the
Center.
Leonard Gutman, Danny
and Geoffrey's father, said,

"It's good because, at 3:30
p.m., they are not going to be
bussed somewhere else."
"I really don't know what
we would do without Prime
Time to be quite honest,"
said Mrs. Rachel Browner,
who works twice a week. Her
alternative is a babysitter
who would pick up Pele at
the school bus stop.
Cindy Posen, Eve's mom,
said, "I'd be in a carpool and
she would be dropped off (at
a sitter). That's what I used
to do before Prime Time."
David Shey, whose son
Sam, 8, is a regular at Prime
Time, also likes walking in
to pick up his son and know-
ing he's had a good time.
"This is its second year
and it has gotten better and
better. Sam's more active
and he really likes the kids,"
Mr. Shey said as Sam nodd-
ed his head in agreement.
"They enjoy themselves." ❑
