"The Sound of Jewish
Music" will be the theme of
the Torah Fund Study Day
10:15 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Oct. 29 at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
Rabbi Morton Leifman will
speak to morning and after-
noon sessions of Michigan
Branch of Women's League
for Conservative Judaism,
which is sponsoring the pro-
gram. During the morning
session, the topic will be
"Ashkenazic and Sephardic —
How Did We Get That Way?"
The afternoon session will be
"An Overview of the Develop-
ment of Jewish Liturgical
Music with Musical Ex-
amples." A lunch will be serv-
ed between the sessions.
Rabbi Leifman is a rabbi
and cantor. He is vice presi-
dent of the Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary and dean of the
Cantors Institute. He also
serves as assistant professor
of liturgy at the Seminary.
Rabbi Leifman was dean of
students and directed the
Conservative movement's
court of domestic relations.
The event is open to the
public; however, reservations
are required. There is a
donation.
