dentistry, but today there are
a number of father-daughter
AO pairs in the Detroit area.
Alpha Omega is organized
into 125 alumni and student
chapters in North America,
Europe, Israel, South
America, Australia and
South Africa. Dr. Luria, a
general dentist in Dearborn,
has just become president of
›-- the Detroit Alumni Chapter,
comprised of some 450 of
Detroit's 650 Jewish dentists.
The chapter maintains an
administrative office in the
Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center with a part-
time executive secretary. Con-
tinuously the winner of na-
tional efficiency report
awards for its programming,
the Detroit Alumni Chapter
combines an active agenda of
educational programming,
volunteer service and fund-
for community commitments
and projects in Israel?'
The Jewish Association For
Residential Care, Kadima,
and the Jewish Family Ser-
vice are among a number of
local groups which receive
funds from the Auxiliary, as
well as Israeli dental schools
and the Jerusalem Dental
Clinic for Children.
The Alpha Omega Founda-
tion was incorporated in 1969
as the philanthropic arm of
the fraternity. The foundation
was responsible for the foun-
ding of the dental schools at
Hebrew University and Tel
Aviv University and has
granted more than $8 million
in aid to various dental
schools, clinics, dental health
projects, scholarship pro-
grams, and research. Each of
the 79 alumni chapters con-
tributes to the foundation.

organized a dental internship
program, which matches
students with "big brothers"
in private practices. Local
AOs also provide free dental
care to new Detroiters from
the Soviet Union.
Alpha Omega's Student
Loan Fund helps student den-
tists with financial
assistance. Detroit was the
first chapter to create the
fund. The flexible repayment
schedule does not begin until
one year after graduation.
The Detroit Alumni
Chapter also maintains a
Parents' Club as a support
group for U-M and U-D den-
tal students.
The Detroit Women of
Alpha Omega is also active.
Its membership of 240 in-
cludes 15 male spouses of
female AOs, and the group
has changed its name to the
Detroit Auxiliary of Alpha
Omega. Auxiliary President
Stella Morof says the group
has evolved into a communi-

credentials. We combine

will be participating in the in-
ternational convention here
in December. Detroiters will
be hosts to more than 800
Alpha Omegans from across
the United States, Canada,
Europe, Israel, Australia and
South Africa at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel in Dearborn
from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1.
According to Convention
Marshall Joel Schaumberg,
there will be a full schedule
of education and social pro-
gramming, including scien-
tific sessions, fraternity
business meetings, a tour of
the Holocaust Memorial
Center, and convention tradi-
tion of an original musical
comedy put on by members.
Kosher meals are served and
a week-long children's con-
vention is offered.
For Dr. Marty Naimark it
will be his 45th convention.
For Rob Nakisher, who at-
tended last year's meeting in
Israel, his second. Mr.
Nakisher looks upon the con-
vention as an opportunity to
share with other dental
students and graduate den-
tists. And Dr. Naimark points
out that it's likely that some
of these young men will
become Rob's lifelong
friends.
