B'nai B'rith Sets
Lunch And Learns

B'nai B'rith Michigan
Regional Council, Michigan
Board of Rabbis and the
Midrasha, College of Jewish
Studies, will sponsor a Lunch
and Learn series beginning
Oct. 18.
Rabbi Harold Loss of Tem-
ple Israel will speak on
"Israel: The Latest
Challenge." A kosher lunch
will be served at noon, and
the lecture will be held at
12:30 p.m. at the United
Hebrew Schools building.
Subsequent lectures will be
held Nov. 15 with Rabbi
Bruce Aft, director of the
Midrasha, and principal of
the Community Jewish High
School, speaking on
"Reconstructing Judaism:
Homosexuals in the Rab-
binate — Is It Good or Bad for
the Jews;" Dec. 20, Rabbi
Mark Cohn, director of Na-
tional Conference of
Synagogue Youth, will speak
on "A New Twist to an Old
Problem: The Christmas —
Chanukah Dilemma."
The series is open to the
community. There is a fee.

On Russian Writers

The Center for Jewish
Creativity and Exploration at
the Jewish Community
Center, 6600 W. Maple Road,
will present "Russian Jewish
Writers in English Transla-
tion," a five-week course
beginning at 7:30 p.m. Oct.
18. The instructor will be Dr.
Luba Berton. There is a fee.
The Center for Jewish
Creativity and Exploration
will present "Imperfect Rela-
tionships: Portraits of Jews in
American Film," a five-week
course beginning at 7:30 p.m.

and the Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies, are co-
sponsoring courses beginning
Oct. 18.
"The Basis of the Siddur as
Related to the Mishnah,"
taught by Rabbi S. Kirshner
of Congregation B'nai Israel,
will meet for eight weeks at
7:30 p.m. The class will study
Mishnah, berachot and other
sources in translation.
"An Introduction to the Bi-
ble and its Commentaries,"
taught by Rabbi Joseph Gut-
mann of Wayne State Univer-
sity, will meet for four weeks.
All courses will meet at
Congregation B'nai Israel.
There is a charge.
