MAGEN DAVID ADOM
American Magen David
Adorn for Israel honored the
late Dr. John Mames at its
annual dinner last week. Dr.
Mames, who founded the
Michigan Region Magen
David Adorn, was re-
membered as a man
dedicated to numerous Jew-
ish causes, his synagogues
and the State of Israel.
Among those at the
dinner, held at Adat Shalom
Synagogue, were Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek Cantor
Sidney Rube and his wife,
Esther Rube, Don and
Rae Sharfman, Naftali
Horowitz, Dr. and Mrs.
Morris Starkman,
Hannah Karbal and Con-
gregation B'nai Moshe Sex-
ton Shalom Ralph.
Some of the guests at the
head table, decorated with
miniature Magen David
Adorn ambulances filled
with flowers, were B'nai
Moshe Cantor Louis Klein,
Shaarey Zedek Rabbi Irwin
Groner, Eva Mames, Adat
Shalom Rabbi Efry Spec-
tre and dinner chairmen
Manny Charach and Louis
Silverfarb.
Gifts of five new am-
bulances were announced at
the dinner. Two will be do-
nated to Magen David Adom
in Dr. Mames' name, the
gifts of Mr. Charach and
Shaarit Haplaytah.

the grand opening celebra-
tion of SportVision, the
country's first optical store
devoted exclusively to
eyewear and accessories for
both the everyday sports en-

racquetball champion Mike
Yellen and Beverly Hills
Cop co-star and Detroit City
Councilman Gil Hill were
among the celebrities on
hand to kick things off for
the more than 400 in atten-
dance. Also seen at the
scene: Bruce Kahn, at-
torney for D.O.C.; Irving and
Dorothy Chaiken, with
grandson Bradley; Ross
Lerner; Sheldon and Bar-
bara Cohen; and Robert
Levy.

HUTZEL DINNER
Nearly 400 people attend-
ed the 19th annual Hutzel
Hospital dinner dance on
Sept. 22 at the Detroit In-
stitute of Arts. Honorary
chairman of the event was
Oscar Feldman. Some of
the Hutzel Hospital sup-
porters included: J.C. and
Corliss Rosenberg,
Nathan and Eva Brooks,
Art and Joan Rose, Mark
and Wendy Evans, Joseph
and Judith Wiener, Mark
and Suzanne Zwiren, Joan
and Robert Jampel and
Glenn Krasker.
