Children Learn
Sounds Of Season

he children of Beth
Hayeled Nursery
School at Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek's West
Bloomfield branch learned
the different sounds of the
shofar last week when
Michael Wolf, assistant di-
rector of youth education at
the synagogue, gave lessons
to the students.
Adam Bleznak, age 2Y2
knew the sounds of the
shofar and tried to blow it.
Other shofar blowing at-
tempts were made by Ari
Barak, Aaron Newman,
Randi Golde and Leslie
Rosenberg.
Janet Pont, nursery
school director, was present
for some holiday discussions
and singing. One song was
about the shofar man.
"When I grow up I want to
be shofar man, then I can
make the strangest sounds
with grown ups watching all
around," sang the students.
When Ms. Pont asked the
classes about their holiday
plans, there were many in-
teresting responses. Allison
Kessler was going to
Grandma's house because
she is serving chicken.
Pamela Gene couldn't wait
to spend the holidays with
her cousin Ari Barak and
sleep at his house. Jordan
Maroko was spending time
with his grandpa because he
cooks macaroni.
Other holiday activities at
Beth Hayeled include apple
picking, making greeting
cards and visits from the
rabbis. Some of the branch
teachers helping the
students include: Cheryl

Bocknek, Beverly
Chabon, Linda Weiss,
Susan Gartenberg and
Debbie Steingold.
Michael Wolf began his
position at Shaarey Zedek in
July. He has a master's
degree from Brandeis Uni-
versity in Jewish communal
service and education. "Our
goal is to put informal edu-
cation into the formal edu-
cation," said Mr. Wolf, who
just completed a retreat with
high school students at
Camp Tamarack.
