campus, the Jewish Com-
munity Council formed a
task force on college-related

Groner Asks For
Hostage Prayers

Rabbi Irwin Groner, of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek and
president of the Rabbinical
Assembly, has asked the 1.5
million Conservative Jews in
the U.S. and Canada to utter
a special silent prayer for the
freedom of the hostages held
by Saddam Hussein and those
hostages held for many years
by terrorists, as part of the
observance of Yom Kippur.
Rabbi Groner sent a letter
in August to President Bush
supporting the President's
Middle East actions, saying
that the 1,300 Rabbinical
Assembly members hope that
the international military
stance, the blockade and
diplomatic postures will soon
"roll back the threat posed by
Iraq."

Rabbi Convicted
In Arab Case

Jerusalem (JTA) — Rabbi
Moshe Levinger, the Gush
Emunim leader from Hebron
who was released from jail
little over a month ago, has
been convicted again of anti-
Arab activities.
The Jerusalem District
Court on Sept. 23 overturned
a lower court's decision to
acquit him of charges stem-
ming from an incident at the
home of an Arab family in
May 1988.
