The Chamber Music Socie-
ty of Detroit has changed its
1990-91 season opening con-
cert to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Or-
chestra Hall. Originally the
Guarneri Quartet was to play.
The new program will con-
sist of Guarneri members
John Dailey (second violinist),
Michael Tree (violist), David
Soyer (cellist) with guest ar-
tists, John Bruce Yeh
(clarinetist) and Seymour
Lipkin (pianist).
Seymour Lipkin, originally
from Detroit, is artistic direc-
tor of the Kneisel Hall
Chamber Music Festival in
Blue Hill, Maine and the
University of Maryland Inter-
national Piano Festival and
William Kapell Competition.
Mr. Lipkin, as well as serving
as conductor for the Joffrey
Ballet Company, has ap-
peared as guest conductor of
numerous symphony or-
chestras including the Detroit
Symphony.

Hilberry Opens
With 'Noises'

The Hilberry Theatre will
open its 28th season with the
President's Preview of
Michael Frayn's farce, Noises
Off Oct. 6-Nov. 17.
The play tells of the
misadventures of a troupe of
fifth-rate actors as they per-
form a sex farce during a pro-
vincial tour.
The Hilberry production
will be direced by Anthony
Schmitt, winner of the "Best
Director" awards from the
Detroit Free Press and the
Detroit News for Nicholas
Nickleby.

Sets Series

Mary Partlow, Birmingham
pianist and vocal music
teacher, will open the 1990-91
Performing Arts Series 8 p.m.
Oct. 5 on the Highland Lakes
Campus of Oakland Com-
munity College.
The other concerts in the
series will feature the
Schoolcraft College Wind
Ensemble Nov. 9; "I Do, I Do,"
Nov. 30; a children's theater
presentation, Dec. 8; Sweet
Adelines, Jan. 25; "Chapter
Two," Feb. 22; Blackthorn,
March 15; and the Bess Bon-
nier Jazz Trio, April 19.
