enny Friedman and

Janice Billmeyer
ept their locks on
the Knollwood Country Club
men's and women's singles
tennis championships with
final-round victories over
Labor Day weekend that
were almost repeats of
1989's finals
In the men's finals, Fried-
man needed only two sets to
defeat Larry Garon, his foe
in last year's finals, 6-3, 6-2.
In 1989, the two battled
through three sets.
In the women's finals,
Billmeyer tripped Lori
Garon, her foe from 1989, in
straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Billmeyer claimed the title
from Garon last year with a
6-0, 7-6 win.
Billmeyer then paired
with Sherri Glassman to
defeat Garon and Janet
Stein, 6-1, 6-2, for the wo-
men's doubles crown.
In men's doubles, the team
of Jack Simon and Danny
Smith, runners-up to Larry
Garon and Mitch Mondry in
1989, reversed those results
with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory
over the defending champs.
Simon laid claim to the
men's senior singles cham-
pionship with a 21-18 victory
in games over Eugene Mon-
dry.
Joel Lerman downed Jeff
Morganroth, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, to
win the men's B singles title
while Nancy Lefkowitz
triumphed over Freda Ler-
man, 6-3, 7-5, for the wo-
men's B crown.
In junior tennis, Justin
Schram, last year's runner-
up in 10-and-under play,
defeated Andrew Stein, 6-2,
6-1, for that championship
while Jeff Eliman suc-
cessfully defended his 13-
and-under title with a 7-5,
6-1 win over Jeff Bershad.
