Egon Mayer Accepting Intermarriage The American Jewish community's attitude toward mixed marriages has changed considerably, ac- cording to two new studies. Where once there was ad- monition, there now exists acceptance. According to one study: 5 percent Would not condone a "thirtysomething" Jewish man or woman marry- ing a non-Jew under any circumstances. — 21 percent Would ac- cept the mixed marriage if the gentile partner agrees to convert to Judaism. — 74 percent — Would ac- cept the mixed marriage without any commitment to convert. B'rith Women, which spon- sored one of the studies and which already accepts non- Jewish members, might "within a decade or two" find itself with a majority of non-Jewish members. In response, Harriet Hor- witz, president of B'nai B'rith Women, acknowl- edged that a "substantial number" of the organiza- tion's 100,000 members in North America are already non-Jewish. But that presents no problem since B'nai B'rith Women pro- -- gramming is not overtly re- -- ligious, she said. "First of all, I'm not sure we'll ever have a non-Jewish majority," she said in an interview. "But if it did happen, I expect there would be some subtle changes in the organization." ❑ NEW BUILDING IDEAS GALORE! 37 Years in Business 2040 Easy Street 2100 Easy Street Walled Lake, MI 48088 (313) 624-7400 RAPHAEL SALON •NAILS •HAIRWEAVING •EXTENSIONS •SKIN CARE •EUROPEAN FACIALS BY ELIZABETH •ELECROLYSIS t iff RAPHAEL SALON • Nails • Hairweaving • Extensions • Skin Care 6231 Orchard Lake Road • West Bloomfield 626-9877 In Sugar Tree Open Sundays In the last 40 years, the death rate from heart attack has dropped 34% TELL HIM A LITTLE ICE IS ALL IT TAKES TO MELT YOUR HEART Pour on the ice.
