Funds collected from the 70- member community will be donated to Operation Ex- odus, the worldwide cam- paign in support of the reset- tlement of Soviet Jews in Israel. Plans for the Bermuda campaign were undertaken during a June visit of Mon- trealer Dorothy Reitman, immediate past president of the Canadian Jewish Con- gress. She was there at the invitation of the Bermuda Jewish community, in her capacity as vice president of the Commonwealth Jewish Council in charge of the Canadian, Bermuda and Caribbean Jewish com- munities. Ms. Reitman met with Sir Desmond Langley, the Ber- muda governor, Sir John Swan, the premier, and members of the Jewish community, including lay leader Vaughan Wright and Henry Roth, immediate past lay leader. The Bermuda Jewish community is composed of young families in the employ of international companies and retirees from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Friday night Shabbat ser- vices are held monthly in a borrowed space, and the U.S. naval base hosts an annual Passover seder. Rabbi Herb Tobin of Boston visits regularly and conducts High Holy Day services. Twelve resident children receive Hebrew lessons. During Ms. Reitman's visit, the community issued an invitation to the Com- monwealth Jewish Council to hold an official meeting in Bermuda next year.
