Mr. Jacobson had indeed
committed the crimes as-
, cribed to him, the judge said.
He was charged with
transferring $350,000 of
ministerial funds to a re-
ligious girls' seminary head-
ed by his father, Rabbi
Moshe Jacobson, chief rabbi
of Be'er Ya'acov.
It was unclear whether the
. Jacobson case is linked to
the ongoing investigation of
Mr. Deri, who was himself
grilled by police for four
hours at his Jerusalem office
last week. Three of his aides
questioned last Sunday were
summoned back by police
Monday, reportedly for fur-
ther questioning about the
alleged illegal transfer of
Interior Ministry funds to
associates of Mr. Deri and to
_-- institutions close to Shas.
Police Minister Ronni Milo
said Sunday that the in-
vestigation was in its final
stages. But he did not
predict when the case would
be handed over to the state
prosecutor.

- Mazon Exceeds
$1 Million Mark

New York (JTA) — Mazon,
a group founded to help the
hungry and the homeless in
the United States and
abroad, has for the first time
exceeded the $1 million
- mark in its annual
allocations.
Representing a 57 percent
increase over the $700,000
dollars allocated in 1989,
this year's grants included
awards to Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of
Religion in New York for its
feeding the homeless pro-
gram and the Southern
California Interfaith Hun-
ger Coalition of Los Angeles,
2 to publish Spanish-language
,copies of the Coalition's
"People's Guide to Welfare
I and Other Services,"
designed to help needy peo-
ple obtain food assistance
and other basic services.
Mazon also provides
grants to the Institute for
the Advancement of Edu-
cation of Jaffa, Israel, for its
feeding program at day care
centers serving Arab and
Jewish pre-school children;
the North American Con-
ference on Ethiopian Jewry,
- which helps feed thousands
of Ethiopian Jews driven
from their homes by war and
famine; and the Menorah
Park Housing Corp. of St.
Louis Park, Minn., to sup-
port the hot meals program
sponsored by this low income
housing project for elderly
Jews. It has also supported
Mother Waddles' soup kit-
chen in Detroit.
