There, or- naments such as Stars of David were torn off. But no anti-Semitic graffiti were found at that site. Local officials of Horbourg Wuhr, near Colmar, said the ''vandals might have been local hoodlums without any particular anti-Semitic lean- ings. Several cemeteries, Jewish , and Christian, have been I desecrated in recent months, and some suspects have been arrested. I Most are youths who belong to no organized party or movement but have a bent for violence and noto- riety. A wave of cemetery van- dalism in France and elsewhere followed the large-scale desecration of the ancient Jewish cemetery of 1Carpentras in southern France in early May. The perpetrators have not 'been found, despite an in- tensive police investigation.
