after a tip from an unknown
party.
Several persons are in
custody in connection with
'the wiretap and other
suspected bugs. Among the
suspects is an aide to an-
other member of Mr. Deri's
Shas party, Knesset member
Arieh Gamliel.
Police sources have unof-
ficially said they hope to
proye a direct link between
Mr. Deri himself and the
wiretaps.
The circle around Mr.
Deri, for its part, has
demanded that the tape be
made public. However, the
High Court of Justice last
week forbade making use of
the illicitly obtained tape.
Last week, a number of
Shas activists, including
Communications Minister
Rafael Pinhasi, gathered
behind closed doors with Mr.
Deri and his secretary in the
minister's office.
Earlier, after the weekly
Cabinet meeting, Mr.
Pinhasi told reporters, "As
of now, I am sure of Deri's
innocence, and when it is
proven, all his false accusers
will have to pay the price."
Opposition Labor Party
leader Shimon Peres and
party secretary Micha
Harish, meanwhile, angrily
denied a charge by Mr. Deri
L that their party had sup-
-ported the launching of the
police investigation against
him, in a desperate effort to
block creation of a Likud-
Shas alliance.

-) Bank Installs
Russian ATMs

New York (JTA) — A small
step that will help make ad-
justment to life in the
United States easier for
S oviet immigrants has just
been accomplished with the
installation of Russian-
language Automatic Teller
Machines, it was announced
by Chase Manhattan Bank
and the New York Associ-
ation for New Americans.
NYANA, which expects to
settle 18,500 Soviet Jews in
the New York area this year,
provides funds for recently
settled refugees for basic ex-
penses during their initial
period in America. These
payments will now be made
by direct deposit and access-
ed via Chase Manhattan's
ATMs.
Because banking through
an ATM will be a new expe-
rience for many of the immi-
grants, special training on a
facsimile ATM machine pro-
vided by Chase Manhattan
Bank will provide them with
'an introduction.
