Ellis Island,
where millions of
Americans trace
their U.S. roots,
has been
restored and re-
opened last week
as a museum.

The new Ellis Island Museum opened after years of extensive renovation.

The Registry Room, also known as The Great Hall, is considered the
emotional core of the museum. It has been left virtually empty so that
visitors can feel the emotions of the room.

Immigrants detained at Ellis Island were fed in the Immigrant Dining Room, which could accommodate 1200 at a
sitting.
