And when her ever-smiling face, exacting poise and turns are present, you know a good fashion show has begun. Diana was one of 16 models and four children who displayed the wares of local merchants at the recent pro- duction by Leah Marks for Michigan Region Women's American ORT. After the much-too-long speeches for an afternoon lun- cheon, a quick-paced array of fashions in the noted Leah Marks' splendor was an im- mediate attention-getter. Radio personality and news editor Rick Jagger emceed with his usual easy-going and personable presentation. John Darakjian jewelry was unusually displayed on slides shown across four monitors around Adat Shalom's social hall, with background com- mentary . . . a huge screen in front of the long stage emblazoned with the John Darakjian name. Once it had gotten started, the fashion show was colorful and entertaining . . . Follow- ing a showing of knits and sportswear by Squeely'z Surf and Sport, Sally's Design (Sally Horvitz and sister Esther Sperber) displayed an enchanting array of styles that the ORT attendees highly enjoyed seeing and no doubt were eager to buy. The simulated cold, frosty look that covered the entire stage was breathtaking as Leah's models walked through wearing sport and elegant fashions from Malter Furs (Martin and Henrietta Malter), including the leather and leather-fur combos that have become so popular, along with rich furs of vibrant col- ors and swing styles . . . naturally the classic mink in traditional and not-so- traditional styling of the latest European lengths plus multi-directional, swirling patterns. Then the kids took over again . . . "I decided to see what it was like to work and not make money," joked Alex- andria Sakellaris of Children's Crossing, whose husband Bob is former owner of Bazouki Lounge in Greektown and has had Bob- by's Country House for years where excellent waitress from the Saksy's days on Wood- ward, Pauline Baron, pleases so many customers . . . Mothers of the youngsters are all ORT members . . . Rachel Robinson (Ronni Tichler), Stephanie Gould (Laura Gould) and Samantha and sister Jocelyn Seston (Sharon Seston) "hammed" it up good to the throbbing limbo rhythms that wafted through the laughing glee of ORT attendees. Suzie Syme, hostess for the afternoon, was president of the Michigan Region ORT, 1972-74 . . . Congrats . . . to Dorothy Rubin, honorary ad journal chairlassie . . . on her 80th birthday . . . Models were prettied by Donna Jag- ger of Malibu Bodies and MarioMax hair styling. Plenty of pens around .. . thanks to the Sally Design "trademark" on all tables .. . If you can't get to the store, say Sally and Esther, then how about at least writing. WHILE PLAYING tennis at Franklin Racquet Club on Northwestern, Nita Silberschein lost her bracelet with NITA in diamonds .. . She called and said that if anybody turned it in to let her know . . . Six weeks went by and Nita decided to go back and find out if it was ever found . . . She was told that the only thing found was a keepsake . . . Nita asked to see it and there was her bracelet . . . Employees at Franklin thought the NITA. meant National Indoor Ten- nis Association. COULD BE that another Pickle Barrel operation will soon be forthcoming when Evergreen Plaza locale owner Al Winkler and sister Lillian Schostak make a complete change in takeover of an ex- isting deli in the northwest area . . . Look for Signature Cafe on West 11 Mile Road to soon become a full-service restaurant . . . It is presently a cafeteria . . . Is it true that the former site of Irving's Delicatessen at LaMirage may become a Chinese restaurant? When the closed Truffles reopens after remodeling, it will be with a name change . . . Terri Ciotti, general manager at Baypointe Coun- try Club, runs the former Truffles . . . New look now at Plaza Deli on Northwestern is that of a regular sitdown restaurant . . . Takeover of legendary Carl's Chop House on Grand River by Mario's owner Frank Passalacqua is not your usual kind . . . No house cleaning job . . . same waitstaff, same food prepara- tion and presentation, same decor, etc. . . . As Frank puts it, why change the stance of a batting champion? IT'S A BOUTIQUE . . . It's a restaurant . . . It's both .. . Whichever you picked is a winner . . . Behind the swing- ing doors of Swanson's Restaurant in Melvindale is Swanson's Unique Boutique, managed by highly ex- perienced fine dining gal Vic- toria Fitzsimmons, 10 years hostess and credit manager at London Chop House and Caucus Club downtown A cold, frosty look that covered the entire stage was a backdrop for the fall fashions. Detroit . . . This Wednesday and Thursday, Bob and Marie Swanson will have a fashion show and sale extravaganza at Fairlane Manor in Dear- born . . . sale from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and fashion show 7 p.m. IT'S ONLY natural that Malibu Bodies technician Michelle Light on Orchard Lake Road should be a big wrestling fan . . . reason for all those mat hero cards on the mirror back of her cubicle at the popular salon . . . It runs in the family . . . Grand- father Harry Light was a big wrestling promoter hereabouts, Uncle Sol a referee and dad Larry a former grappler . . . Michelle's favorite? . . . The Ultimate Warrior. WILL BE FIRST time ven- ture of togetherness when Detroit Metropolitan Council and Greater Detroit Chapter City of Hope have their corn- bined black tie dinner-dance Sept. 27 at Hyatt Regency Dearborn, 6:30 p.m. cocktails and 7:30 dinner . . . Spirit of Life award will be given to Wilt's Joe (J.P.) McCarthy, music for dancing by Mel Ball and Colours, and a lot of good entertainment by laugh-a- minute songsters Gaylord and Holiday. Dr. Mark Saffer is president of the Detroit Metropolitan Council and Jerry Green- baum president of Greater Detroit Chapter . . . The lat- ter was founded by Ben Goldberg and organized in
