China Publishes
Encyclopedia
Tel Aviv (JTA) — An en-
cyclopedia about the culture
and history of the Jewish
people is to be published in
Chinese by Nanjing Univer-
sity in the People's Republic
of China,.
Researchers at the univer-
sity have notified Professor
Yosef Shalhevet, a repre-
sentative of the Israeli Na-
tional Academy of Sciences
who heads an Israeli science
office in Beijing, that Nanj-
ing University has been col-
lecting material for the en-
cyclopedia.
It appears that most of it is
based on the Encyclopedia
Judaica and Russian-
language sources. The
Israelis would like to provide
help.
Dr. Meir Zadok, the direc-
tor-general of the Israeli
Academy of Sciences, said
the academy will examine
ways to mobilize funds in
order to assist the Chinese
university.
