NEWS Israel Teeters On The Edge Of Water Crisis Tel Aviv (JTA) — The water level of Israel's main reservoir, the Kinneret, known in English as the Sea of Galilee, dropped this weekend to the lowest level ever since recordings began. A reading of 701 feet below sea level was recorded on Friday. It is expected to drop another half-inch per day, due mainly to evaporation. But despite the fact that the danger level is now only inches away, Israel's Water Authority has decided not to order a halt to pumping water from the lake to the national water carrier, as had previously been an- nounced. The level of the underground aquifers in the coastal plain, where local wells supply most of the de- mand, has also become dangerously low.
