that you won't squint against the sun's
rays or the snow's glare.
• Don't use detergent, deodorant
or medicated soaps on your face.
There are numerous cleansers that
you can use with water which are
much more gentle; Clarin's Doux Net-
toyant, Lancome's Ablutia Gel Mous-
sant or the less expensive but still
gentle Owen/Galderma's Cetaphil (the
latter can be found in drug stores or
discount cosmetic stores) are good
examples. If you prefer cleansing
without water, a creamy lotion formu-
lated for your skin type, followed by
a refreshing toner, will clean just as
effectively. Most skin care lines offer
these products.
• Drink as much water as possible
in order to moisturize your skin from
within.
• Keep a humidifier or, at the very
least, a glass of water in your bed-
room to add moisture to the air. For
your office, keep handy an aerosol
spray of mineral water such as Evian
and periodically spray your face. It
won't disturb your makeup but it will
keep the central heating from drying
out your skin.
• Protect your skin and hair (and
keep your body heat in) by wearing
a hat, a scarf and gloves. Many pro-
ducts for hair now contain sunscreen
as well: Rene Furterer's Protective Sun
Mousse: Phyto Plage Oil and Gelee,
made with botanical extracts: J.F.
Lazartigue Sun-Filtering Styling Gel
and Protective Hair Milk, which is
good for color-treated hair. To con-
dition the hair, try Daily Protectant de
Pantene which is a leave-in condi-
tioner that protects hair from wind,
heat and sun, or Vidal Sassoon
Hydrating Complex, used once or
twice a week to help rejuvenate mois-
ture and shine.

STYLE

Color has impacted denim in a big
way. Indigo blue will always be num-
ber 1 but denim looks great in the
deep earth and vegetable tones of fall
— brown, pumpkin, purple, gray,
green. Often they have been gently
lightened by rinsing or stone washing.
The trendsetters are avoiding these
lighter washes.
