rowdy," Dr. Littky said.
"But to me, that's really ex-
citing learning."
Dr. Littky won his fight
with the school board, a
judge ruling that his rights
had been violated when he
was not given a hearing. Not
long after, school board
members Susan Winter,
Bobby Secord, Allen Barton
and Francis Gutoski left
their positions. Since then,
Mr. Gutoski has died; Mrs.
Winter is in jail and Mr.
Secord and Mr. Barton have
nothing to do with the
school.
Today,„ Thayer High con-
tinues to operate under Dr.
Littky's program. And
teachers in the school
regularly travel around the
country, helping other in-
structors implement Thayer-
type projects.
Now in his 9th year at
Thayer, Dr. Littky said he
doesn't know what his
future will bring. Originally,
he only intended to stay at
the school for five years.
"I love my teachers and
kids," he said. "And I feel
I'm committed to what I do.
I'm doing the most impor-
tant work I can." ❑
