workers and other members
of Local 2, which with 10,000
members is San Francisco's
largest union, have been
picketing the Parc Fifty Five
since July.
In the meantime, other
delegates to the General
Assembly will be housed at
the San Francisco Hilton,
the main conference hotel,
as well as the Grand Hyatt
and Handerly Union Square
—all union hotels.
The General Assembly, a
major decision- making
forum for Jewish leaders,
will deal with a variety of
pressing issues confronting
the Jewish community.
Among the topics on the
agenda are the changing
situation of Soviet and East-
ern European Jewry, the
Middle East, reaching unaf-
filiated Jews, Jewish rela-
tions with other minorities,
electoral reform in Israel,
economic development of
Israel and Jewish education.
Keynote speaker at the
General Assembly will be
Israeli President Chaim
Herzog.

Felon Arrested
For Satmar
Murder
New York (JTA) — A con-
victed felon was arrested
last week in the Feb. 8
murder of Rabbi Chaskel
Werzberger, a leading figure
in the Satmar Hasidic com-
munity in Brooklyn's
Williamsburg section.
The suspect, 35-year-old
David Ranta, was ap-
prehended after months of
police work and eyewitness
accounts of several children
who are members of the
Satmar community.
Rabbi Werzberger, who
was the shamas, or sexton, of
the main Satmar shul in
Williamsburg, was shot
following a botched robbery
attempt on another Hasidic
Jew carrying gems.
Rabbi Werzberger was
killed as he was on his way
to synagogue for morning
services. The religious com-
munity was shocked by the
murder of Rabbi Werz-
berger, a Holocaust sur-
vivor.
A second suspect in the
murder, already in police
custody on unrelated
charges, may also be charg-
ed in connection with the
case.
