Hurt
In Exercise

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Sixteen
reserve paratroopers were
injured Sunday night during
a night jumping exercise in
the Negev.

Six of the wounded sus-
tained medium to light in-
juries, including fractures to
legs and lower parts of the
body. They were being
treated Monday in a hospital
in Beersheba, where they
were brought by helicopter
from the drop site. The
others wounded were releas-
ed after first-aid treatment
on the spot.

A preliminary investiga-
tion into the accident in-
dicated that the wind was
stronger than had been an-
ticipated as they jumped
from a height of some 11,800
feet.
The paratroopers made
hard landings onto a rocky
hillside, unable to see the
ground from their vantage
points. They were unable to
make last-minute ad-
justments to land in a flat
area.
