Judith Weiss, formerly of
Oak Park, and Dale Hartes-
veldt of San Jose, Calif., are
happy to announce their
engagement. Judith is the
daughter of Miriam Weiss of
Berkeley, Calif., and Dr.
Milton Weiss of Milford. Dale
is the son of Jane Hartesveldt
of Mendocino, Calif., and the
late Dr. Richard Hartesveldt.
Judith and Dale are
graduates of San Jose State
University. He is a general
contractor and heads D.E.
Hartesveldt Contruction.
Judith received her degree in
occupational therapy and is
an intern at San Jose Medical
Center.
A summer 1991 wedding is
planned.

Humanistic Jews
Plan Conference

A three-day seminar and
convention of the leaders of
Secular Humanistic Judaism
from Israel, the Soviet Union,
the United States, Canada,
France, Belgium, Uruguay,
Argentina and Australia will
convene Oct. 19-21 in
Chicago.
The Third Biennial Con-
ference of the International
Federation of Secular
Humanistic Jews will be
hosted by the Society for
Humanistic Judaism and the
Congress of Secular 'Jewish
Organizations.
Programs will center on the
future of the Jewish people
with emphasis on the social,
economic and political issues
that will dominate Jewish life
in the future; the nature of
the evolving Jewish family;
and the relationship between
Israel and World Jewry.
The keynote address will be
by Yehuda Bauer, president of
the International Federation.
