Educators Name
New Officers

The Jewish Educators
Council of Metropolitan
Detroit is planning numerous
educational programs for
teachers, parents and
students for the new school
year.
The new officers of the
council are: Robert Lask,
president; Janet Pont, Renee
Wohl, Rita Abramson, Barry
Levine, Dottie Dressler, An-
nie Friedman, and Joseph
Poisson, immediate past
president.
The educators council
meets five times during the
school year. The educators are
_involved in creating avenues
to connect all branches of
Judaism in the common goal
of educating the Jewish com-
munity. The council will meet
at noon Oct. 18 at Temple
Beth El.
A Mini C.A.J.E. Conference
for educators will be held on
Nov. 18. Educators can attend
workshops, seminars and ex-
hibits. The Oppenheim fami-
ly is sponsoring the event. For

Adult Book Club
To Be Organized

The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies is offering a
program for adults interested
in participating in an
organized Jewish book club.
The program, "D.E.A.R."
(Drop Everything and Read),
Jewish Adult Books — book
club will meet monthly on
Mondays, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.,
for eight sessions beginning
Sept. 10, at the home of Ofra
Fisher. A new fiction book
will be discussed each month.
At the first session, the book,
The Gift of Asher Lev by
Chaim Potok, will be discuss-
ed. Students must pre-
register for the series.
The sessions will be led by
Ms. Judy Silberg Loebl, the
coordinator of the D.E.A.R.
Jewish Books Program. She
gives book reviews for Jewish
organizations throughout the
Detroit area and can also be
seen giving book talks on
Oak Park Cable TV.

Aish HaTorah Plans
Series Of Courses

Aish Halbrah is starting a
cycle of three classes to be
repeated quarterly through-
out the 1990-91 year. The
classes will be taught by Rab-
bi Alon Tolwin, education
director of Aleynu.
The first class is entitled

the "Five Levels of Pleasure."
This class is based upon the
writings of Rabbi Aron of
Barcelona. Rabbi 'Iblwin will
define the five levels and
discuss how to have more
energy by being aware of
these levels.
The second class will be
"How to Love." It is a look at
the Jewish view of love. Rab-
bi 'Iblwin will show how to
use Jewish wisdom to
enhance relationships.
The third class is entitled
"Actualizing Your Potential;
How to Use Free Choice."
The five levels wil begin at
8 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Aleynu
office. Each class is free for
members. There is a $5 fee for
non-members. Call the

Class To Prevent
Intermarriage Set

Rabbi Avraham Jacobovitz,
director of Machon IiTorah,
the Jewish Learning Network
of Michigan, announced the
renewal of Machon's "Just
Say No to Intermarriage"
campaign which is designed
to encourage an awareness of
the problem of intermarriage
in the Jewish community.
The first in a series of lec-
tures will take place at 7:30
p.m. Sept. 10 at Machon
IfIbrah's Learning Center.
The program will include an
audio visual presentation and
a dicussion on the subject:
"Can Judy S. Shapiro and
Fitzgerald J. McDonald Live
Happily Ever After?" led by
Rabbi Jacobovitz.

Institute Offers
Sunday Classes

The Jewish Parents In-
stitute is now accepting new
members.
Sunday school classes for
students in nursery through
9th grade begin Sept. 9 at the
Jewish Community Center
Maple-Drake building. All
classes are held Sunday mor-
nings from 10 a.m. until
12:15 p.m.
JPI's Sunday school
stresses the culture and
history of the Jewish people
and includes music, dance,
teen programming, and an op-
tional B'nai Mitzvah pro-
gram. Adult education
features lectures, cultural
and social events.
Informational meetings
about JPI are offered. For in-
