SEE THE LATEST IN FALL FASHION FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 1990 Another way to assess ca- reer trends is to look at the student leaders and outline their aspirations. One Bran- deis professor, Larry Stern- berg, did just this. Dr. Stein- berg helped coordinate a Leadership Institute, with 100 Jewish student leaders, as part of the B'nai B'rith Hebrew Leaders Assembly. About 25 percent of the atten- ding students said they were interested in Jewish com- munal service or Jewish education as careers. Since this study used a small sam- ple of students with highly specialized backgrounds, it may not reflect the popula- tion at large or even the Jew- ish population in general. But the findings do concur with larger national studies that suggest today's students are being more discriminating in their career search and are looking for more than money. An interesting facet of this drive is the reality facing many young people today that it is difficult or impossi- ble to surpass their parents' financial means, due largely to the economy. Explains Mr. Rudolph, "Students feel real conflicts in making career decisions. They see their parents' standard of living, and they hope to do as well. Many generations thought they'd do better. This is becoming almost imposs- ible." ❑ DISCOVER Your Senior Portrait Can Be Taken The Way You Want GOLDENBERG PHOTOGRAPHY Continued from preceding page how ROEPER's individualized approach to education and commitment to our families makes a real difference in the lives of gifted students.
