ALLEN WALKER, 82, of Southfield, died Aug. 15. He is survived by his wife, Frieda; daughter and son-in- law, Diane and Daniel Hechtman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Dr. Irving Edgar, Jewish Historian Dr. Irving Iskowitz Edgar, 88, of Southfield, died Aug. 17. A year after graduating from the University of Michigan's Neuro Psychiatric Institute in 1943, Dr. Edgar began a private practice in psychiatry. He also served on the psychiatric staffs of many area hospitals. Dr. Edgar documented Jewish history in Michigan, writing "A History of Early Jewish Physicians in Michigan" and another history of Ibmple Beth El. He was the founder and long- time president of the Michigan Jewish Historical Society and edited its publica- tion, Michigan Jewish History for many years. In addition to writing other books, Dr. Edgar helped to found the American Jewish Committee — Detroit chapter, served as president of the Brotherhood of Temple Beth El, active in the Sholem Aleichem Institute and a Shabbat study group. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; children, Joy Vron- sky, David and Richard Edgar; sisters, Clara Kleiman, Tillie Knopper, Rose Gold; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Dr. Ernest Shaw, B'nai B'rith Member Dr. Ernest Shaw, of Southfield, died Aug. 10. Dr. Shaw was past president of the Metropolitan Detroit B'nai B'rith Council. He was a commissioner of B'nai B'rith International Com- munity and Veteran's Service, Board of Governors of District 6 B'nai B'rith, Morgenthau- L'Chayim Lodge and a member of B'nai B'rith Inter- national's Israel Lodge. He was a director of the IRS National Data Center in Detroit before retiring in 1973. While serving as assis- tant director of the IRS Ser- vice Center in Ogden, Utah, Dr. Shaw was president of Congregation Brith Sholem, a member of B'nai B'rith and president of the Jewish Welfare Board. In 1973, he joined Walsh College as an adjunct lecturer in business law and manage- ment. He became chairman of the college's management department in 1974 and later, assistant dean, acting dean and professor emeritus. Dr. Shaw leaves his wife, Sema; son, Howard of Rich- mond, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dr. Scott Zimmerman of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; brother and sister- in-law, Morris and Mollie Schwortz of Queens, N.Y.; two grandchildren. Interment in Farmingdale, N.Y. Harry L. Jacobs, Businessman Harry L. Jacobs, 70, of West Bloomfield, died Aug. 18. He was founder and owner of Congress Collection Cor- poration — Southfield. Mr. Jacobs was past president of the Michigan Association of Collection Agencies and the Philamathic Debating Socie- ty of Wayne State University. He was a member of Temple Israel. He leaves his wife Esther; children, Phyllis and Sheldon Zager of West Bloomfield, Jef- frey and Ellen Jacobs of West Bloomfield, Margery and Dale Matney of Grand Rapids; sister and brother-in- law, Rose and James Weiss of West Bloomfield; six grand- children.
