The United Jewish Appeal's
historic Ingathering Mission
to the Soviet Union, Poland
and Israel will bring Jews
from throughout the United
States to share the newest
aliyah from the USSR, Oct.
21-30.
Detroit's contingent, led by
Lawrence Jackier and Joseph
Orley, 1991 Detroit Allied
Jewish Campaign chairmen,
will join more than 300 peo-
ple on the official launch of
the 1991 Campaign.
In an optional portion of the
itinerary, mission-goers will
travel to Poland to see the
roots of European Jewish
culture, or on the first-ever
direct charter El Al Israel
Airlines flight from New York
to Moscow, the major
jumping-off point for the
Soviet olim.
In Israel, participants will
meet newly-arrived im-
migrants from the USSR and
other countries, and discover
aborption's impact on Israel's
future.
Poland pre-mission high-
lights will include traveling
with scholars-in-residence
from Warsaw to either
Lublin, Lodz or Piotrkow;
marching to Auschwitz-
Birkenau with more than 500
young Jewish leaders of UJA's
Morasha Mission; and atten-
ding a performance of the
Krakow Philharmonic Or-
chestra under the direction of
American conductor Gilbert
Levine.
Besides a tour of the city,
Moscow highlights will in-
clude meeting with the U.S.
ambassador and with Dr. Yuri
Reshetov of the Soviet
Foreign Ministry.

Following the visit to
Moscow, the mission will
depart either for Budapest to
pick up Russian immigrants
or on direct flight to riblAviv.
In Israel, participants will
learn about UJA's role in the

absorption of the Soviet
aliyah through visits to ab-
sorption centers for Soviet
olim and neighborhoods
where they are now living.
Participants will accom-
pany just-arrived Soviet
families through their first
hours in Israel as they go
through the absorption pro-
cess. They also will meet with
individual Israeli families
who have volunteered to
adopt the new olim, and learn
about the day-to-day meaning
of Israel to the new
immigrants.
Participants will also meet
Israel's president, Chaim
Herzog, and will dine with
Prime Minister Yitzhak
Shamir before returning to
America.
The 1991 Ingathering Mis-
sion is sponsoring from New
York City all givers with a
minimum commitment of
$10,000 to the regular Cam-
paign plus an Operation Ex-
odus gift. Accompanying
spouses not meeting
minimum gift guidelines will
be asked to pay $3,200 for the
pre-mission and Israel por-
tion, or $2,200 for the mission
to Israel only.

Physicians Group
Offers Seminars

A special Israel program is
being offered by the Surgeon
General of the Israel Defense
Forces and the American
Physicians Fellowship for
medicine in Israel. It is a two-
week tour/seminar, from Oct.
21-Nov. 4, combining a tour of
Israel with seminars on
Emergency and Trauma
Medicine.
The tour is open to medical
professionals and the general
public. The scientific program
will include seminars in rIbl
